Toasted Cork, a material with unique and certified characteristics, 100% natural. It comes from the bark of the cork oak and proves to be an excellent insulator, both in summer and in winter. The advantages and possible uses of this material do not end there, and they concern us closely: it is worth knowing them and knowing who works in the toasted cork supply chain, like Tecnosugheri, for example, which has been active in the quality cork sector for 50 years, in full compliance with the regulations and the client

Toasted cork: what it is

A Toasted Cork panel it is obtained through the agglomeration of cork granules based on the thermal roasting process, during which the bark of the cork oak releases its natural resin, suberin. The amount of resin thus released is sufficient to allow us to do without added adhesives to complete the agglomeration of our block. Once cooled, the suberin "wraps" each granule with a "film", protecting it and making it insensitive to water and humidity. That is why, as we will see later, a Toasted Cork panel it is forever, lasts an infinite time and has no loss of insulating performance.

Those who work in the sector know it well: the toasted cork and the blond one have in common only the bark of the oak, as raw material. The production is totally different, and thanks to the absence of adhesives and the best insulating performance (Certified and calculated according to CE standards), toasted cork is strongly recommended in all building uses, both for quality of performance and for duration over time. .

Let's touch the differences and advantages in the next paragraph.

Toasted cork: characteristics

100% natural, “multiple” certified, without adhesives but with lasting and safe performance: the Toasted Cork it is thus characterized among the various materials, similar or not, winning the hearts of architects and designers, but also of those who are simply attentive to respect for the environment and know that every responsible choice is one more step towards a more sustainable society.

Effective and green, the Toasted Cork it can be used as a "classic" coat, the traditional shaved one, but it is the only one of all the insulating panels on the market that can also be left exposed. An advantage that opens up infinite architectural and design perspectives to all designers, architects or designers.

Toasted cork: the CE marking

Made without the use of added adhesives - as prescribed by the requirements of the CE marking (EN13170) - and, in the case of CORKPAN panel by Tecnosugheri, certified by ANAB-ICEA and natureplus - the Toasted Cork turns out to be al 100% natural. For the uninitiated, the CE marking, which we take too often for granted and which we don't care much about, is instead an important mark for consumer protection. There are two letters, "CE", which in the case of Tecnosugheri Toasted Cork, ensure that the insulating panel has the minimum guaranteed performances, those communicated on the label.

Contrary to what one might think, the CE marking it is not common to all materials and it is not a characteristic that all corks can boast. The blonde cork no, for example, is not covered with a EN standard European Union that makes the CE marking, but the fulfillment of this requirement would be easily obtained through a simple one Product certification (ETA), by the individual manufacturer.

No manufacturer of blond cork in Italy he opted for the CE product marking (ETA), preferring to resort to the Italian institution of self-certification of performance, without providing information and certainties on the reproducibility of performance or on the differences in performance that may exist between one panel and another.

It is important to know that the Lambda D value (conductivity value of the CE marked product) and Lambda (value of the non-marked product) are not directly comparable, Without a "D" value even for blond cork, it is not possible to compare the performance of the two products. All things being equal, I calculate it, taking as given the Lambda D of the blond cork of the only European producer that has made the product ETA, it is clear that roasted cork insulates about 30% more, at the same thickness.

Green more than ever, the Toasted Cork it is not burnt but it is toasted. The roasting process of Portuguese producers guarantees the control of cooking temperatures and the absence of PAHs (Benzene, Benzopyrene etc. etc). The same cannot be said of producers from other countries. In the case of the CORKPAN cork by Tecnosugheri, human safety, the absence of PAHs and other harmful substances is subject to periodic certification by the ANAB-ICEA and natureplus bodies.

Tecnosugheri: quality cork in Italy

Tecnosugheri was a Milanese cork factory active in the production of ICB toasted cork from the 60s to the early 90s. From this date, the company ceased production, becoming a commercial partner of Amorim Isolamentos, the world's leading producer of cork and semi-finished products. Tecnosugheri only deals with cork for construction and is, still today, a company of the Maffezzini family. The name Tecnosugheri has always been synonymous with quality cork in Italy and the skills gained by the company in the construction sector allow it to act as a reference point for clients and professionals who decide to use cork to energetically redevelop their home, to a natural and eternal material. Yes, because CORKPAN cork is forever!

CORKPAN toasted cork panel

Let's imagine a self-expanded and self-glued natural cork panel that is safe for humans and the environment: there is, it's called CORKPAN and we can also use it for the thermo-acoustic insulation of our homes.

CORKPAN it's a cork panel type ICB (Insulation Cork Board)and it is the only one who can boast the certification for green building by a third party (ANAB-ICEA) and to be certified by the prestigious Austrian organization Natureplus.

The thermal performance of this product is guaranteed for the entire life of the material, no aging effect and long life for CORKPAN. In this season I would like to underline that it is an excellent summer insulator due to its high thermal inertia, but also in winter it will be appreciated because it has a conductivity value at the level of the most common fibrous insulators and 30% better than non-roasted cork.

At an "architectural" level it is important to know that CORKPAN it is insensitive to water and humidity and does not deform, which is why we can also use it as an exposed coat, without shaving, and without worries, above all. On Ideegreen I cannot remain silent about the attention to the environment they show AMORIM is Tecnosugheri, not in words and slogans but in deeds. In numbers, more than anything else, because in a hypothetical life cycle of their product, of 100 years, for every kg of cork panel 1.33 kg of CO2 eq. it is stored in the cork, due to the biogenic process of growth of the plant. It is a feature certified by the LCA studies of ANAB ICEA and the Politecnico di Milano.

Corkpan cork applications

The CORKPAN panel it is already the protagonist of important interventions also in the public sector, for the day center for the disabled in San Felice s / Panaro (MO), for example, and for the residence for oncological children in Catania (WonderLAD). In general the CORKPAN Roasted Cork it can be used to create thermal insulating coats and we already find it part of the SecilVit CORK External Cladding System based on natural hydraulic lime and cork micro-granules.

Buildings to be redeveloped or to be built new, with traditional brick-concrete or wooden structure, the toasted cork panel is the ideal choice, then if we have a facade to cover, we can use the version CORKPAN MD FACADE to create a cork coat and save on property management costs since this material does not require maintenance over time. Speaking of facades, but not only, these panels being natural, when exposed to UV rays, they lighten but do so according to their orientation. This play of light gives life to irregular colors, with unpredictable shades, which leave you breathless but fill those who want to take advantage of them with possibilities and which offer the possibility to customize facades or walls in a creative way.
